As Assistant Port Director for Trade Operations at the Miami International Airport (MIA) since 2017, Kemisha D. Sherrell currently oversees both inbound and outbound operations in the air cargo, express cargo, and postal mail environments with regard to trade enforcement, facilitation of legitimate trade, and the identification of illegal drugs and commercial fraud. She is also responsible for enhancing partnerships with the trade community and private industry for consumer safety, e-commerce, and the implementation of CBP regulations for cargo at MIA.
Sherrell began her career at the Atlanta International and then transferred to the Miami Seaport where she determined the admissibility and movement of maritime freight. In 2008, she transferred to the National Targeting Center (NTC) where she established national security policy for cargo operations and worked to integrate other government agencies, international partners, and industry stakeholders with the CBP mission. She served as the subject matter expert for key national initiatives, led change in global supply chain security through the development of the Air Cargo Advance Screening Pilot, and increased visibility of innovative processes within CBP’s automated targeting enterprise. Sherrell is a War College graduate from the National Defense University’s College of International Security Affairs, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Strategic Security Studies.
